At a glance

Definition

Document control applies defined rules to the creation, approval, distribution, revision and withdrawal of controlled information. Its purpose is to ensure that people use the correct approved information and that the organization can demonstrate who changed or approved what and when.

Why it matters

Document Control translates a familiar operational pain into a broader eQMS discussion. It is highly relevant to QA, QHSE, audit and compliance stakeholders and is often where organizations discover the limits of shared drives or basic collaboration platforms.
